Ariel Winter began acting at a very young age, starting with commercials when she was just four years old. Today, Winter stars in Modern Family, one of the most popular and long-running shows in TV history. The show has become the favorite of an entire generation, as people can easily relate to the quirky and dysfunctional families at the core of the storyline. Since she has been in the industry for just about her entire life, many have been able to watch Winter grow up on screen, which has sometimes led to struggles in her personal life. Despite all of this, Winter continues to be a symbol of self-confidence and can perfectly articulate the feeling of a generation struggling with identity and self-love.

You play Alex in Modern Family, one of the most popular shows on television, which is currently on its 10th season. What has the experience of being on a show that has run that long been like?
It’s been fantastic. We are so lucky that we got to be a part of [Modern Family] and that we are still a part of the show. To have been employed for a season is already a blessing, and for it to have gone on for ten seasons is insane. It’s a show that people genuinely like and that we genuinely enjoy making. It is cool growing up on the show because as an actor you get to learn from the other actors. It is really good practice to learn how to be an adult on set. I read the script when it got down to the final callbacks. It was funny, a family comedy; it was smartly written. However, I was also eleven, and I don’t think I fully understood the impact of how big the show could be. I didn’t realize there was even an option that it could go that far, so I thought it was really good, but I don’t know if I fully saw it. I didn’t watch a ton of TV growing up, so I don’t think I really knew what comes of a show once it gets big, other than that people watch it a lot. I didn’t know about the awards and all the other stuff that comes with it. I didn’t know what the possibilities were.

Talking about self-confidence, have you ever struggled with confidence? How have you managed to overcome this?
When I was 14 to 16, in high school, I cared about what people thought about me. And not what my classmates were saying but more what was on the Internet, since there were a lot more people who said things directly. In school, it was more like whispers that maybe I heard or maybe I didn’t. I tried to change a few of those things. Nobody thought anything better of me, the criticism didn’t stop, nobody was ever going to be happy with the way I looked. So I realized that it didn’t matter… the only person that matters is me because I am the only one who has to live with me. These people don’t know me; they know what they see on the internet. You can’t change the way you look in a major way. You are who you are, and there is no problem with that. We are always harder on ourselves than we need to be. And I also think that sometimes we think people are criticizing us, but in reality, we are just doing it to ourselves. Taking time to think about that and understand what is going on and why you feel that way, instead of brushing it aside, is important. Why live hating yourself when there is no real reason to?

The shoot that we did was all unretouched, was that different from other shoots? How so? What about it did you enjoy?
It was definitely more of a difficult process for me, not because I have to be in makeup daily, I don’t, I’m not looking red carpet standard all the time. It is just something you think about like, “Oh, well I am going to be photographed in this setting. Oh no, what if I look weird? I got a pimple today!” But it was nice to be able to do that.

Do you have any tips for young women who are struggling with their own self-confidence?
If we were all supposed to look a certain way then we would have probably evolved that way. We are all different, and that is the way it is. When we see Victoria’s Secret models, they are beautiful! There is no reason we should hate on them. We are not going to look like that person, nor do we need to. There is nothing better than looking like yourself and being unique. Nobody wants to be the same; the same is boring. We all have our different strengths, and so much makes up a person. Our features are not the only things that matter in life. Everyone’s idea of beauty is different. It doesn’t matter if you think one person’s beauty is the beauty you think every person should be. We should all be happy to be different.

Ariel Winter has dished out the real skinny on her dietary habits — and it might not be what you’ve read in the media.

“Modern Family” star Winter had a laugh at the media’s expense Thursday night, mocking a report that she keeps herself on a short leash when it comes to sugar and carbs.

In a tweet Thursday night, Winter said that she was tipped off to the article by a friend.

In the tweet, punctuated on both ends by crying-with-laughter emojis, Winter noted that “my friend sent me the funniest article that’s apparently in OK about my ‘super strict diet’ and how I only go out to eat if it’s healthy food and I don’t allow sugar in the house…….”

The actress continued, “HAHAHA I eat every carb possible and I make soft chocolate chip cookies every week…”

Winter was possibly referring to an OK! article published Thursday bearing the title, “How’d She Do It? Inside Ariel Winter’s Amazing Weight Loss.”

The article reads, “A source spilled to OK! magazine that the ‘Modern Family’ actress has an extremely strict diet.”

It continues, “Ariel cuts out sugar completely and avoids carbs whenever she can,” the insider shared.

The article goes on to state, “While cutting out carbs is usually a good idea when trying to lose weight, the star also ‘won’t allow any sweets in her home and only meets people for healthy meals.’”

Ariel Winter knew her lines: “Sit. Sit. Sit. Sit. Sit.” But her co-star, a brindled hound mix named Tigger, didn’t budge.

It was the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and Ms. Winter, a dog lover, had come to Animal Haven, a shelter on Centre Street in Lower Manhattan that finds home for abandoned dogs and cats.

In town to promote “Modern Family,” the popular sitcom she has starred in for 10 seasons, Ms. Winter had taken the afternoon off to volunteer at the shelter and record a public service announcement.

In Los Angeles, where she lives, Ms. Winter works with the Westside German shepherd Rescue and American Humane. Four dogs (Casper, Chloe, Cash and Cleo) populate the Culver City home she shares with her boyfriend, the actor Levi Meaden.

“Our house would be filled with dogs if it was up to me,” she said. “But four is our max right now. We try to give them all enough attention.”

At Animal Haven, she wanted to do whatever was needed, with one request: no cats. “I’m allergic,” she told Tiffany Lacey, the executive director of the shelter. “I’m not going to get hives or anything, just a seriously stuffed up nose.”

Ms. Lacey said that cats were kept in a separate area and handed Ms. Winter a purple volunteer shirt that clashed cheerfully with her plaid pants and red boots.

For her first job as volunteer, Ms. Winter, who has a sweet, bright voice and the outsize eyes of an anime character, was assigned to romp with Delilah, a 4-year-old silver terrier mix rescued from Puerto Rico. “Oh, girl!” Ms. Winter said as she scratched her ears. “So sweet.”

Delilah had other admirers to greet, so Ms. Lacey took Ms. Winter on a tour of the kennels downstairs, comfortable rooms brightened by a skylight. She waved to the dogs in each berth as she heard stories of their rescues. (more…)

Modern Family is on its way to an 11th season on ABC, as the show’s six adult stars are negotiating to continue their roles.

Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ed O’Neill, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara are in talks with producer 20th Century Fox TV to continue their roles in 2019-20, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The studio declined comment.

Modern Family co-creator Steven Levitan had previously said “the plan was to end it at 10” seasons, but that was before 20th Century Fox TV was poised to become part of Disney, which also owns ABC. The studio’s pending acquisition would remove one of the hurdles to a renewal, namely ABC having to pay a sizable license fee to an outside studio. Disney would also reap the backend benefits of having an additional season of the show in syndication and streaming.

The six leads have largely worked out financial terms of their new deals, sources tell THR, with a few other details still to be addressed. Their last negotiations resulted in substantial raises for the cast; the six who play parents on the show also have shares of the backend.

Deals with Modern Family’s younger actors — Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, Rico Rodriguez and Nolan Gould — will be worked out after the six adults finish their negotiations. Levitan and co-creator Christopher Lloyd have said they’d be open to another season as well, though Levitan’s deal with 20th expired over the summer after he opted not to re-up.

Ariel’s in a happy relationship with Levi Meaden and had been together for two years. Their relationship started raising eyebrows on the web when news that they were dating first broke out. The issue primarily focused on the age gap between the pair. Levi Meaden is 31 years old, while Ariel Winter is 20 years old.

Although nothing has been confirmed, it’s been speculated that the reason the actress chose a much older guy to date is related to how she was raised. Ariel Winter said that she was emotionally and physically abused by her mother when she was a child. As such, it would make sense that she would gravitate towards people who are older than her and someone who can provide a sense of stability for her life.

This is doubly true if her past statements are thrown into the mix. “I needed somebody who had a lot of life experience and who was at a point in their lives that they could take care of another person, but where I didn’t have to take care of them,” Ariel Winter said. So far, Levi Meaden seems to give her the comfort and affection that she needs and that’s what really matters when It’s all said and done.

There have been plenty of paparazzi shots showing Ariel Winter on her regular trips to the gym. All that working out as paid off as the 20-year-old actress is rocking her most toned body ever and flaunted her taut tummy and tight figure in an incredible outfit while running errands in Studio City, CA on Dec. 7. She flashed her abs in a black crop top with a stylish black leather motorcycle jacket over it (it IS still almost winter after all). Her 10 pound weight loss really showed in her blue skinny jeans, as she added black knee high boots to complete her look. Even Ariel’s face is slimmer with her cheeks and jawline more pronounced.

Ari has been all about sharing her body shaping journey with fans, as she regularly posts videos of her intense workouts to her Instagram page. On Oct. 11 she shared a vid where she maintained a plank pose — which is an insanely great core exercise — while doing leg lifts with ankle weight on. So not only was she toning her tummy, she was sculpting her legs and booty in the process. Fans were all on board with her workout as the vid got over a million likes.

The Modern Family star has worked with her personal trainer Mack for over a year and the results have been so impressive. Ariel has been candid in the past about body confidence issues, which she has posted about on her Instagram when people have shamed her for flaunting too much flesh. “It’s really taken me years to be able to get to a place where I’m OK with it. I’d read the negative comments and think to myself, ‘well maybe if I just change [this one thing] people will like me,’” she told EliteDaily.com in 2016 after getting cyber bullied.

‘Over the years, I’ve struggled with body confidence issues… It’s really important nowadays to empower young women — and young men… to feel really good about themselves, not only their appearance, but to feel good enough to stand up for themselves when necessary. I started to realize that I can’t win. If I can’t win, I’m going to work on a relationship with myself, which I also think is the most important thing we can teach young women and men today,” she added.

Ariel Winter is showing that the sisterly bond between her and “Modern Family” co-star Sarah Hyland is bigger than TV.

Over the weekend, Hyland’s cousin and uncle were involved in a serious car crash in Omaha, Nebraska. Her uncle, Bryan, is recovering in the hospital, but her 14-year-old cousin, Trevor, was killed.

Hyland lashed out at the alleged driver, who she claims had two prior DUI’s and allegedly tried to run from the scene of the accident. She called the driver a “murderer” and said he should “rot in hell.” Hyland also posted a GoFundMe to help raise money for her cousin’s funeral expenses.

So far, the highest donation is from Ariel Winter who gave $2,500. Hyland donated as well, kicking in $1,000 on her own behalf.

It also appears the girls’ co-star Sofía Vergara donated $1,000 under the handle, “S Ver.”

The money raised from the GoFundMe is expected to cover funeral costs and medical costs for Hyland’s uncle.

Ariel Winter newest accessory completely stole the show of her entire outfit and it was impressive.

The Modern Family star hung out in New York City on Monday, where she accessorized her navy teddy coat (which, btw, I officially want to live in all winter) with some serious bling. Her right pointer finger was decorated with jewelry designer Norah Sermez’s $2,300 “Immaculate Heart” sparkler, featuring a 7mm pink heart-shaped sapphire and white diamonds set in 18-karat yellow gold. But it isn’t just the stunning stones that make the ring unique: The design also includes intricate gold work, with a cross, two roses, and a crown surrounding the pink heart.

The ring seemed to prove its worth as a multifunctional piece when Ariel swapped her head-to-toe navy look for a cropped cream turtleneck (or better known as “the biggest conundrum of the fashion world) and a pair of red plaid pants. She also traded her open-toe sandals for a more seasonally functional pair of red pointy toe boots and pushed back her middle-part blowout with a silver barrette.

While in New York, Ariel Winter sat down with Ryan Seacrest and Kelly Ripa on Live With Ryan and Kelly to talk about what it’s been like to grow up on camera for 10 years. “I’m very lucky to have the job I have. It’s great, but it’s like a double edge sword. It’s fun because now throughout the years I’ll be able to look back at all of my different moments — getting braces, getting braces off, going to prom — but it’s also hard, when you start something at 11 years old and everyone gets to see it over the years, and so it’s like, I get to see it and be like ‘haha!’ and everyone else gets to see it and be like, ‘HAHA,’ and then I’m like, ‘Hmmm…'”

She continued, “I’m 20 years old, and I’ve been acting for so long, and I get to do this, so I’m really lucky regardless.”

When it comes to her love life Ariel Winter, 20, is in a very good place. That’s what sources close to the Modern Family star tell HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY about her romance with Canadian actor, Levi Meaden. “Ariel has never been happier in her life and that’s majorly in part to boyfriend Levi,” one insider says about the 31-year-old Breaking In star. “Ariel feels Levi keeps her calm and focused. Ariel has gone through so much with her personal life, that she finally feels stable and secure with Levi, which is why you constantly see them out together. They hardly go anywhere without the other.”

The paparazzi are forever snapping the former child star and her love running errands and going on dates around Los Angeles, and our sources say that their PDA is a true reflection of how they feel about each other. “Levi is essentially a part of the Modern Family family, always on set and attending events with her,” the insider adds. “He’s so affectionate with her, constantly holding her hand and making sure she’s tended to. Levi understands Ariel has been through a lot and so it’s important to him to make her feel loved. He truly supports her and she values that. They’re both extremely happy and content with where the relationship is currently and where it looks to be heading. They’re inseparable and madly in love.”

A second source agrees, adding, ”Ariel feels like she has found her soulmate. Levi is so calm and understanding with her and they both just have the greatest time with each other. There are no trust issues, no unneeded drama or anything weird between them. They both are making time for each other and giving each other everything they need.”

Ariel’s two-year romance with Levi is good news for the actress who legally emancipated from her mother, Chrisoula Workman in 2015 when she was 17 after a turbulent childhood. Ariel has spoken publicly of her happiness with Levi, paying tribute to him in a Sept. 12 Instagram post in honor of his birthday. Next to two photos of them packing on the PDA she wrote, “Thank you for loving me and letting me love you every single day. You are amazing in every sense of the word and I couldn’t be luckier. You make my heart happier than I ever could’ve imagined. My other half in everything, my home. Happy birthday baby. I love you.”
